About Moana L. Andersen
Moana is the Founder and Broker In Charge of Equity One Real Estate, Inc. She began her real estate career in 1985 and opened her own firm 5 years later. In 1999 she was honored as Realtor of the Year by the Realtors Association of Maui. For five years (1995 - 2000) she served as a Mayor appointed Planning Commissioner for Maui County.
In 2003, she was installed as the President of the Realtors Association of Maui. She has served as a State Director for the Hawaii Association of Realtors for 2 terms and has worked on numerous committees including Equal Opportunity, Standard Forms, Public Relations, State Conventions and the Affordable Housing Task Force. She is also a 2010 graduate of the Hawaii Association of Realtors' Leadership Academy.
Her favorite moments as a Realtor have been her involvement in the Presidential Scholarship review process. The Realtors Association of Maui raises money annually to scholarship High School Seniors from Maui, Moloka'i and Lana'i. Reading the stories of these young people, their hardships and their will to succeed was a highlight during her office as President. It has since motivated her to begin her own scholarship for native Hawaiians in honor of her mom, Henrietta Leilehua Keyes. Mom was born and raised on Maui, orphaned at age 10 and self educated. She became a master bridge and tennis player and saw all 3 of her daughters through college. She's still around to enjoy her mo'opuna and a scholarship in her honor as well!
Moana is a Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS). Her biggest adventure was negotiating and closing on her apartment in Paris in 2001. She loves to buy property in foreign lands, even against the advice of her cherished tax attorney. And in her own words, "nothing beats a 1031 Exchange".
Moana is a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) as well as a Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB). She received her Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Hawaii.
She is also an accomplished pianist and songwriter and was nominated for Religious Album of the Year for the 2004 Na Hoku Awards. She finished her second CD, "Sweet Rain" but got too busy to release it. She's working on her third album.
One of her all time favorite things to do is dance the hula. She loves Kahiko (ancient) as well as modern and studies beneath Kumu Gordean Lee Bailey of "Wehiwehi 'O Leilehua" under the tradition of Aunty Maiki Aiu Lake. She also loves to sing and play the ukulele, especially the music of Kahauanu Lake.
Moana has 2 daughters and a son, is an empty nester, and has 7 grandchildren. She speaks 3 languages and above all things loves to cook for her friends. When things get stressful she makes pasta or French food.
She lives in Keokea, Kula with her husband and dog "Ulu". Together they have raised 8 golden retrievers over 35 years, 1 cat, lots of fish and 3 kids.
